THE DAILY DECAL LAUNCH DAY

Affixed to trunks and suitcases, luggage labels, once a recorded ‘‘stamp’’ of being somewhere and a clever advertising vehicle are now an incredible source of typographic and illustrative inspiration. Today begins Day One of THE DAILY DECAL, the start of sharing my collection of these vintage gems, including other nostalgic labels in the mix. I will post one a day—on this blog as well as on twitter @welivetype and instagram @nancyrouemy. You may get inspired by the architecture of a design, one letter, or even an innovative drop shadow. Sometimes that’s all you need — that kick of inspiration that will prepare your project for take-off!

No. 1 > Air France: Love how the bottom of the characters multiply in color when they kiss the multitude of scotch rules. The red bird silo also "flies" in the flag!

THE ART OF DISCOVERY

I had a meeting with two amazing editors at Rizzoli today, in the New York office on Park Avenue. A professional lifelong dream of mine—designing a book for Rizzoli. What a thrill to see my cover options printed out, laying beside a slew of luxurious books decorating the boardroom table. Stay tuned for more on this revealing book of 100 Hollywood stars and their inspirations.
